You don't have to be Jewish to decide to start your year over now, either.
But, does anyone belong to a synagogue which does not use a shofar made from an animal horn? I know it's not technically allowed to be done any other way, but that's a barbaric rule, in my opinion.

I never quite thought of it that way--I wonder if animals are hurt or if the horns are removed from animals that are already deceased.
Animals have to be killed to get their horns for the shofar. I think that often the animal is killed for something else -- but not necessarily. I really hated reading about it.
